Review
A not-too-bad comedy Spaghetti Western. Roy Colt and Winchester Jack are both outlaws, until Roy retires because outlawary isn't profitable enough. Jack "rescues" and Indian woman, who looks more Spanish, and turns out to be a prostitute, but keen on marriage. They, and a Russian bandit called "The Reverend", discover the location of some gold and set out after it, with some splitting of maps taking place. Roy has been appointed Sheriff though, so he can recover the gold.
It's clearly aiming for a "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid" feel, but really doesn't have the charm for that. A lot of the humour is quite smutty (which isn't a bad thing), and some of it is actually quite funny (Jack's forced bath at gunpoint, for example). However, it does wear a bit thin – I found my patience was running out about the time of the visit to the brothel with two Irish girls, although that scene did have its moments.
The scenery is very much Italian mud-quarry and woodland themed, although in this context I don't think it really detracted. There's some semi-convincing matte paintings to try to look more like the American south-west.
The Koch Media DVD has English subtitles over Italian audio. The picture isn't fantastic, but is watchable. Rumour has it that it's cut, although frankly I don't think that's likely to matter to many people (I suspect the link to "rumour" will expire fairly quickly...).
In short, it obviously isn't a good film, but despite itself, it kept me mostly entertained for 80 mins. Probably not worth getting on its own, but it comes as part of a collection so is more justifiable.
