Review

A fairly sparsely released Western directed by, and starring Tommy Lee Jones, this is an interesting film, well worth seeing. The story concerns a rural farming lady (Hilary Swank) he is charged with/volunteers to return three women who have been driven to insanity by their lives in the West back home. She (forcibly) enlists a drifter (Tommy Lee Jones) to help her.

There isn't really a huge amount of story beyond that (at least until the last third): the makeshift cart trundles across the plains meeting occasional hazards and we learn what pushed the women over the edge. It's primarily about the mood of the film. Swank is good as a frontier woman who isn't coping as well as she'd like to believe. Slightly less good as the three insane women, who I think are overdone a little and bordering on one-note caricatures.

Never going to be a classic, but interesting none-the-less.
